City Government is Committed to Improving Tanah Abang Market Through Digitalization

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has reaffirmed his commitment to revamping Tanah Abang Market in Central Jakarta. This effort aims to revitalize and restore its former glory as the largest trading center in Southeast Asia.

It was stated by Pramono during reviewing the Market Digitalization Competition 2025 at Tanah Abang Market, Thursday (8/21).

"The Jakarta government will seriously and sincerely carry out improvements, slowly reviving Tanah Abang Market, but becoming a new force for the market industry centers in ASEAN," Pramono stated.

Pramono acknowledged the current sluggish condition of Tanah Abang Market. Therefore, improvements are necessary to revive trading activity.

"Tanah Abang Market needs to be improved to encourage as the ASEAN market center to come back to life," he added.

One effort to revitalize Tanah Abang Market is through market digitization. Pramono believes that digitalization will make transactions more efficient and secure.

"Pickpocketing is definitely decreasing with the digitalization system. Thuggery will also slowly but surely decrease," he continued.

In addition, Pramono also emphasized the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of the market area so that public interest increases, as well as easy access.

He further stated that Jakarta currently contributes 16.61 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Meanwhile, its economic growth has reached 5.18 percent, exceeding the national economic growth of 5.12 percent.
